Trivandrum Diocese

Mar Baselios Mar Gregorios Orthodox Syrian Church, Sreekariyam is under Trivandrum Diocese. On1978, February 20th, Malankara Syrian Christian managing committee recommended a division in Kollam diocese. According to Committee’s recommendation, On1979, January 1st, Kollam diocese was divided into two, namely Kollam diocese and Trivandrum diocese. After the position, we are under Trivandrum Diocese.

Our Catholicos: H.H. Baselius MarThoma Paulose II

H G Paulose Mar Milithios had the privileged of becoming the first bishop of newly formed Kunnamkulam diociese on 1st August 1985. His Grace was elevated as Metropolitan on 25th Oct 1991. besides shepherding the kunnamkulam dioceses His Grace serves as the president of orthodox Syrian Sunday school association of the east (OSSAE), MBCH Mannapra Vadavucode, Pulikottil Mar Divannasius Bhavan Kottapady. His Grace is the vice president of Mar Gregorios Orthodox Christian Student Movement of India, MMM hospital, Kunnamkulam and manager of M. D. college Pazhanji. His grace has also served as the president of the Orthodox Youth Movement. The Holy Episcopal synod and the Managing committee nominated His Grace as the successor to the Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan on 27 Sep 2006. Elevated to the throne of The Catholicos of The East and Malankara Metropolitan on 1 Nov 2010.

H.G Dr. Gabriel Mar Gregorios is the Metropolitan of the Diocese of Thiruvandrum of the Indian (Malankara) Orthodox Church.
He was born on 10 February 1948 to Mr CM John and Mrs Aleyamma John, Vadakethazhethil, Kanjickal. He did schooling at St Stephen’s High School, Pathanapuram. He persued his BA from Kerala University in English Literature. Subsequent to that, he joined the Serampore University and took his BD degree in 1974. He did his MTh from the Catholic University, Paris. His Grace persued successfully a three-year Diploma Course in Biblical Hebrew, a two-year certificate course in Aramic and advanced course in Biblical Greek at the Catholic University, Paris. His Grace also did Doctoral Research at the Lutharance School of Theology at Chicago on the topic “The Glory of God in St Paul” and took his PhD in New Testament from the Serampore University. He further did his Doctoral Research at the University of Cambridge.
